Our Name

As has often been said before, there is power in a name, and you might be interested in why ours is what it is. For those familiar with the Story, you might think that it is a reflection of John 3:16, which Martin Luther said was, “the Gospel in a nutshell” and you would be right.
It is also reflective of the fact that our first gathering was on March 16, 2008: 3/16/08.
But more than anything else, 316 is a reminder that a unity is created when God and humanity come together. It works like this (and for those of you who don’t think in a linear fashion, I apologize): “3” symbolizes the Trinity in Scripture, that mysterious Three-in-one of God, Christ, and Spirit. “6” symbolizes humanity, one short of “7” which is symbolic of completion and wholeness. When the “3” of God and the “6” of humanity collide in life, a unity, a “1” is created. It is a startling and invigorating unity, radical and scandalous by definition, and empowering beyond compare.
And that, my friends, is why we are 316 Fellowship.
